Ned Jampijinpa Hargraves

Ned Jampijinpa Hargraves is a Warlpiri elder from the remote community of Yuendumu in the Tanami Desert. He has lived in Yuendumu all his life, but travels regularly to support his family across the many communities in the Northern Territory. 

Mr Hargraves is a vocal leader who regularly speaks to the media and government representatives on current affairs affecting his people. He also works as a Warlpiri interpreter in local court for community members facing trial in the Northern Territory, ensuring they understand their rights, and that their interests are properly represented.

Mr Hargraves identifies himself as coming from two worlds, and therefore able to bridge understandings between his people and the kardiya (non-indigenous peoples) that have significant political power and decision-making capacity. As a jampijinpa, he also takes much joy in teaching - sharing knowledge with those who are respectful and curious.
